Thanks to the two great actors who entertained the kids at theTudor Christmas Fun Day. If your kids like Horrible Histories then they will love this fun history lesson with all its gory details. Not much good for kids under 5 or if they cant speak english. This was a last minute idea for us which ended up being the highlight of our weekend. Katherine and Johnny said "Thank you very much!"

  3. We had a fantastic day out with our two boys (4 and 2 years old) and loved every second. The story telling was great - very gory and grizzly with both boys listening with fascination. The two pirates were great in engaging all the children - and I got as much carried away as the boys. The treasure hunt was the highlight - my older one, who is normally a bit shy and would not for the world leave our side - was off in a second and chased up and down the ship with the other kids, completely absorbed in the fun. Ever since he's dressing up as pirate at home and keeps telling us about Francis drake and the Golden Hinde - he also wants to become a pirate whe he's grown up! Very much looking forward to have his birhtday party there soon

  4. Visited on November 26th with my two daughers, one of who is "doing" the Tudors at school. We were all fascinated, informed and entertained by the guide the name of whom I didn't catch. The children were enthralled by all the grubby details of live on board the ship.

  5. We booked the Golden Hinde for our son, Jake's, 5th Birthday Party. The kids were mesmerised by the actors Tom and Meg who were our pirate hosts for the day and who ensured that the kids had a great time. Not only did kids have lots of fun playing pirate games but they learned a lot too. After much pirate mayhem and some gifts at the end the kids then went to the pirate den for their birthday tea.
In summary it was a fantastic day and our friends all thought that the Golden Hinde makes an inspired and original choice for a kids birthday party. Thanks to Tom and Meg for being such great pirates and keeping the kids safe and entertained for the afternoon

  6. I visited today (24th October) with my Mother and my 8 year old daughter Rosie. Rosie is studying the tudors at school and we felt that it might be interesting to visit the Golden Hinde. It wasn't just interesting it was a fantastic day out. The knowledge of the tour leader, style of delivery, and costume had us all captivated and entertained throughout the whole session. Children were encouraged to ask questions and even included in some of the demonstrations. The tour brought the time of Sir Francis Drake alive for my daughter and she went home full of plans to find the body of Drake in its lead coffin laying somewhere off the coast of Panama.......

Congratulations! I'd recommend this attraction to anyone, and dare I say it, it was very good value.

  7. Harry (age 7yrs + 3days) and I (his Nana) went on the "Pirate Fun Day" on 17th September in the morning and both had the most wonderful time. The "crew" were amazing with their interaction with the very young children, and Pirate Tom's storytelling was spellbinding, Harry soaked up every word. He loved the Horrible History slant it was all given and all the children were completely absorbed in the different activites. We all laughed a lot too at the silly jokes, it certainly was a "Fun Day" and I (and Harry) would thoroughly recommend it to anyone with younger children.

  9. I took my lad on the Golden Hinde on Friday 2nd September and I haven't stopped raving about it since.... We took the guided tour and our guide was not only informative but made the experience such fun. If you need to do something with Children in London then I couldn't reccommend this highly enough. 5 stars from me!

  10. I visited yesterday and went on the guided tour with Charlie and Oliver. It was the best children's event I have ever been to. Loads of fun and educational in a really hands on and engaging way. It was all very like a Horrible Histories experience and equally well executed. Meg and Mick were so perfectly pitched and talented - their knack with quite literally getting the kids on board was at various times hilarious and heartwarming. Quite simply, the most unforgettable day out to be had in London.

  11. Max (age 7) and I (age 40 something) visited the Golden Hinde for a second time last week and had a wonderful time again, so we thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting London with children! The staff managed to bring to life the stories of being a member of the crew, living on board and firing the guns ... the children laughed for hours!

  12. My kids (age 5 and 6) had a whale of a time on the Pirate Workshop. Captain Tom and his trusty sidekick were amazing and made the whole experience so much fun for everyone. We laughed so much but learnt loads too - well worth a visit!!

  13. This is an absolute favorite day out. It is great fun and Conor at 4 really retains the knowledge because it is given in such an interesting and entertaining manner. The self guided tour is good, but we would highly recommend the excellent guided tours and especially the pirate day . .

  14. I think this was probably the same replica that I saw at Great Yarmouth in the Summer of 1993 or 1994. I was astonished how small it was but well worth a look around.

  15. Our visit to the Golden Hinde today was Awesome, made partculrily interesiting, amusing and memorable by the most excellent Tour Guide, Thomas. He had the audience in the palm of his hand, History brought to life.... Fabulous!

  16. I took my 9 year old son. Not too busy and the tour was first class because the guide was clearly so passionate about the ship. All the staff were the same - so happy to help and share the history. The children were enthralled by the stories and history. We stumbled upon the hinde by accident and it made our day. I have been to many tourist attractions in london as I live here and take relatives around. This is a treasure and by far the most enjoyable time I have spent in London.

  18. I took my 8 year old daughter on the 28/5/11 to visit the Golden Hinde and stumbled across the pirate day activities. We had SUCH a great time. It was fun, informative and a really imaginatively put together series of activities. We were entertained for three hours which just flew by. I don't know who enjoyed it more - me or my daughter!

  21. DON'T MISS THIS WONDERFUL LONDON ATTRACTION!
Wow, I thought this would be a tacky tourist site but how wrong I was. James enchanted both children and adults - he certainly knows his history, and more importantly, knows how to bring it to life and keep his audience capitvated. Great ship, great story and really fantastic guide - you and your kids will love it.

  24. My 4 and 7 year olds loved the Pirate workshop put on by Captain James and Lanky Tom the pirate today, what a wonderful and emersing experience it was for them - and for us as parents! The kids were transfixed by everything they were told and became trainee pirates for an hour!
The whole morning was truely wonderful and great value for money, highly recommended and deffinately a place we will be visiting again.
Thank you so much for a truely memorable experience, keep up the good work!

  33. At the risk of sounding nuts, I have reason to beleive that in a previous life I may have been an elizabethan sailor or even Drake himself. I have visted this ship numerous times and in various locations. Each time I have been on board I have expereinced feeling that I can only describe as 'coming home'. Love this ship, would love to sail on her (again!) she is to my mind the closest resemblance to the original I have ever seen - bearing in mind that no reliable or contemporary depiction of the ship exists. Thoroughly recommend a visit. I shall be returning soon.

  34. Tudor Battle 24/8/10 - 12 noon
We travelled up from Somerset to take part in the Tudor Battle (George and Lizzie) and we weren't disappointed. A brilliant mix of gory details, and role play. You will pleased to hear that George, Aged 9 won a certificate, for an outstanding project at school for his Tudor Project on Sir Francis Drake - with a whole section on what it was like being a member of the crew on the Golden Hinde, in his own words. Thank you so much.

  35. Thought I'd take the trouble to praise the tour guide called Ian, who's tour was really good, informative & entertaining & even managed to keep the kids that were on the tour interested. One hour zoomed by. 10/10.

  36. We spent the night of the 21st August on board for the family sleepover, our grandchildren were over from canada, and it was a fantastic experiance for them. Thank you to all the staff for making it a fun, educational night for them and us, it will never be forgotten, especialy by the one they named 'Pixie' (our grandaughter who was the Powder Monkey). All the families that night were great, and the actors taught at a level that was easy to understood and was great fun. Thank you to Sailor Jack, The Barber Surgeon, The Master, Christopher and not forgetting Billy who guided us supurbly through the fantastic journey. We highly recomend this to all, and will bring our new grandchildren when they are old enough. It beats DisneyLand hands down. A fun way to learn history.

Thank you again from Brian & Carole (Grandparents) also Debs, Josh & Kate from Okotoks, Alberta Canada.

  37. My son and daughter (pinky Colin – you will find out!) aged 8 and 9 loved the Tudor battle workshop.
Can’t recommend it highly enough, and a great time was had by all with the crew members really bringing the ship to life during the 90 minutes of the “show”.
We used the 2-1 offer available through our train ticket which helped.
Get yourself down there for something different, best thing is to take in one of the events, and mind your head!

  40. Just got back from the guided tour ... the Golden Hinde is wonderful but the Guide really brings it all to life. The Guide was exceptional and amazing value ... he managed to keep my normally flighty four year old completely enthralled for an hour. Wonderfully entertaining for the full age range of kids (plenty of poo stories and interactive too including raising the anchors and firing the cannon) and plenty to keep the adults entertained too. Well worth the money .. and I am very tempted to return with the nephew and niece too and apparently they do birthday parties & overnight sleepovers!! If you are visiting the area, don't leave without taking in a guided tour .. To all at the Golden Hinde and our wonderful guide, many thanks for a wonderful afternoon!!

  49. Have had a fantastic day today at Pirate Fun day aboard the Golden Hinde! We had our two sons, aged 6 and 3 with us and also their cousins who are both 8 and the day was perfect for them. The guys who run the tour are just brilliant. They had the kids doubled up laughing the whole time, but taught them a lot too. They were really enthusiastic and the kids loved them. The boys got to explore the whole ship, play games and watch demonstrations about life on board.

Would recommend it to anyone, excellent day out.

  50. My two children had a wonderful time today with Stinky Pete and his pirate chum (sorry, didn't catch his name.) Arrived late so only managed to do the treasure hunt which the children enjoyed immensely. My seven year old son sweetly said "do you think they knew where the treasure was before and it was make believe?" Would definitely try and get there earlier to hear the pirate stories and do the guided tour. Lots of fun. Thanks very much.

  51. I visited The Golden Hinde in 1998 with my parents and since then have wanted to return. This year I finally got the chance. In October 2009 I decided that The Golden Hinde would be the perfect place to propose to my girlfriend ( who has always been interested in the sea and life on board a sailing ship and of course pirates) I telephoned The Golden Hinde and asked if I could hire the ship for the evening. Jochelle informed me that they had a number of packages available that could be tailored to meet my requirements. Numerous telephone calls, emails and visits to the ship helped me to plan the perfect evening for my proposal. The staff could not have been more helpful with their suggestions and advice. On the day itself my girlfriend and I were greeted at 5.30 by Sonia or "Pirate Jim" for our private tour of the ship. Although I was very nervous about asking the most important question of my life, the tour itself was so good, interactive and engaging that after a few minutes I was enthralled. At the end of the tour, the staff had made a personalised flag for me which was hoisted by our tour guide with a message for my girlfriend and I proposed on the deck.....she said yes! A perfect end to a perfect evening and all thanks to the help and assistance of Kevin, Sonia and the staff at the Golden Hinde.
We also found out that the ship arranges overnight living history events for children. We plan to come back with our family and make the Golden Hinde a special place for us for many years to come.

(Posted on 2010-02-24 19:16:00 by Gareth)
  52. Well what can I say about The Golden Hinde. Its staff and Pirate Jim.
    1. The location:- A two minute walk from London Bridge Station with the Globe pub (The film location for Bridget Jones house) nearby. Handy to nip in for a quick drink.
    2. Tour of the ship:- The staff are so knowledgeable and professional that you could almost hear, taste and smell what life on board would have been like. Cleaning and firing the cannons gave us an interactive experience of how hard and loud it would have been on board. A thoroughly enjoyable tour for both adults and children and a must do and see when visiting London.
Would I do it again? Most definately! And next time will take my family and friends.
Thank you to Kevin and Sonia for your hard work. We hope to see you all again soon.

  59. My boyfriend and I discovered the Golden Hinde by accident while visiting nearby Borough Market and decided to pop in for a look. It is a beautifully reconstructed little ship and very atmospheric inside, as a venue for a private party it must be amazing! It is well worth a visit as a glimse into a fascinating bit of British history and with so many other fabulous attractions in this part of London, incuding Southwark Cathedral, the ruins of Winchester Castle, "The Clink" prison, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, the Tate Modern and the Milennium Bridge all within five-minutes walking distance it is a great starting point for a day's exploring of this wonderful area of the city.
