Learning programmes for children of all ages
Here at the Golden Hinde we believe that children learn best through a living history experience.
That’s why our learning programmes have been specially designed to be both interactive and fun.
From raising the ship’s anchor to re-enacting a gun drill, singing sea shanties to practicing with the navigation equipment, your class will receive a unique and unforgettable insight into life aboard a Tudor vessel.
All tours are led by professional costumed actors, and the children are entertained with tales about Sir Francis Drake, his voyages, and adventures out at sea.
If you would like more, we offer joint programmes with local venues including Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and the Museum of London Docklands.
Key Stage 1
Give your class the adventure of a lifetime on these action-packed tours for children as young as five!
Using a mixture of fun games and group exercises, they will experience the sights and sounds of life aboard ship, and meet the colourful cast of characters who accompanied Drake on his voyage.
After that, it’s time to practise raising the ship’s anchor, reloading the minion gun, and mock-firing it – all under the watchful eye of our expert guides. Will they succeed before the dastardly enemy attacks?
Key Stage 2
Step back in time to the world of the Tudor seafarer on these exciting tours for older children!
Offering an entertaining blend of storytelling and practical exercises, your class will have the chance to explore every aspect of life aboard ship in some detail.
Whether it’s having a go at map-making, sampling the crew’s diet, or taking part in a mock battle with the Spanish, we’ll bring the past to life like nothing else can.
And with programmes ranging from a day of living history to a comprehensive six-week course, we have something to suit children of all ages and levels of ability.
Key Stage 3 and 4/Academic
